Ohio didn’t experience the blue wave that many other states did in 2018. And with President Trump winning Ohio by eight points in 2016, some pundits say Ohio is no longer a swing state. But the chairman of the Democratic National Committee says the Buckeye State is important this year.

Last week’s Democratic National Convention brought new questions about unity for that party, and nationwide attention for an outspoken former state senator from Cleveland.

There’s plenty of star power at the Democratic National Committee in Philadelphia this week. And among those famous faces is a somewhat infamous one from Ohio who’s been quietly chatting with convention-goers. He's the former mayor of Cincinnati – who most people know from his infamous nationally syndicated talk show.

Loud and colorful protests have been getting a lot of attention at both the Democratic National Convention this week and the Republicans’ convention last week. But there was at least one low-key demonstration not aimed at any candidate, but targeted at the heart of the platforms that each party voted on at the start of their conventions.

Ohio delegates at the DNC heard a message of coming together at their required meeting Monday morning.  It comes as their convention got off to a rocky start under outgoing chair of the Democratic National Committee Debbie Wasserman Schultz.  The convention is moving forward in the wake of a leaked DNC email scandal over senior party staff favoring of Hillary Clinton’s nomination and bashing fellow Democrat Bernie Sanders.

Supporters of Bernie Sanders have been blasting the role that the 715 superdelegates have played in this presidential campaign, since they aren’t pledged to either Sanders or Hillary Clinton. And there will be a measure that will be voted on during the first day of the convention.

Many of the questions that were being asked of delegates at the Republican National Convention were about party unity. But with supporters of presumptive nominee Hillary Clinton meeting up with Bernie Sanders backers, those questions are being asked of delegates at the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia too.

Bernie Sanders is expected to endorse Hillary Clinton tonight, the opening night of the Democratic National Convention. But there are plenty of signs – literally – that his supporters aren’t there yet.

As the Republican and Democratic conventions craft their platforms, one group wants to make sure their issue is added to the list. They say paid family leave isn’t just good for the employees but also a smart business decision.
